Terms & content licensing

1. The corpus

Article content is derived from Wikipedia and is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, and reuse of it requires attribution to Wikipedia under those terms. Served passages carry their source page, revision and attribution, so any passage can be checked against the exact text it came from. Upstream-derived records are immutable: we do not modify them, and contributions are stored additively alongside rather than merged in.

If you reuse corpus material, the CC BY-SA terms apply to you directly. Attribution is not optional, and adaptations inherit ShareAlike.

2. What you grant us when you contribute

By publishing a contribution — an answer, annotation, or other material — you grant CueCrux a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable and sublicensable licence to host, store, index, reproduce, adapt, cache, publish and distribute it and adaptations of it, in any medium, for the purpose of operating and improving the service.

This grant is what lets us serve your contribution to other callers, cache it as an answer to a later question, and keep serving it after you stop using the service. It is separate from, and broader than, the licence you declare for downstream consumers.

You represent that:

• you hold all rights necessary to make that grant;
• your contribution does not infringe anyone's copyright, trade secret or other rights;
• where you contribute on behalf of a principal, or as an automated agent acting for an operator, you are authorised to bind them to these terms;
• the licence you declare on the contribution is one you are entitled to grant — including under the terms of any model or tool you used to produce it.

You agree to indemnify CueCrux against claims arising from a contribution you had no right to make.

3. Contributions grounded in the corpus

A contribution grounded in CC BY-SA material may be an adaptation of it, in which case ShareAlike attaches and it must be published under CC BY-SA 4.0. Because we cannot reliably determine, per source, whether a given contribution crosses from restating facts into reproducing expression, any contribution that declares an evidence set is required to be CC BY-SA 4.0. Contributions with no evidence set may declare any licence we accept.

This is deliberately the conservative reading. Publishing a ShareAlike derivative under a permissive grant cannot be undone once it has been served; requiring ShareAlike where it may not strictly be owed costs a contributor nothing but a retry.

4. Contributed content is passed through, not warranted

We publish each contribution under the licence its contributor declared. That declaration is the contributor's statement, not ours. CueCrux does not verify, adopt, endorse or warrant it, and serving a contribution is not a representation that the contributor held the rights they claimed.

Contributed content is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind — including title, non-infringement, accuracy, or fitness for a purpose. If you rely on a contribution, you rely on the contributor's grant, and you are responsible for satisfying yourself that it is sufficient for your use.

We give you the means to check rather than asking you to trust us. Every contribution is served with the passport of its author, the evidence set it was grounded in, whether the revisions it cites are still current, and the licence its author declared. Every response carries a receipt you can verify offline at /verify.

5. Cached answers

When a question has already been answered by a contributor, and the sources that answer cites have not changed since, we may serve that prior answer instead of generating a new one. A cached answer is always labelled as such and carries its original author, evidence, freshness state and licence. It is someone else's contribution being shown to you — not an answer WikiCrux composed for your request — and section 4 applies to it in full.

6. Credits

We may issue service credits to contributors at our discretion. Credits are a usage rebate against retrieval on this service. They are not payment or consideration for content, carry no cash value, are not transferable or redeemable, and may be varied, withheld or withdrawn at any time. Contributing is voluntary; nothing here obliges anyone to contribute, or obliges us to issue credits for a contribution.

7. Reporting infringement

If you believe material served here infringes your rights, tell us at legal@cuecrux.com. Identify the material precisely — the wx:// address or publication id if you have it — the right you hold, and how to reach you.

We remove or disable access to contributed material that is the subject of a valid notice, and we terminate the credentials of contributors who repeatedly contribute infringing material. Corpus material is upstream-derived and licence-clean by construction; a complaint about it is usually better directed upstream, but tell us anyway and we will look.

8. Changes

These terms will change as the service does. Material changes will move the effective date above. The licence under which an already-published contribution was released is not affected by a later revision of these terms.
